Discover Halifax, Nova Scotia's vibrant capital city founded in 1749. Stunning 18th- and 19th-century buildings are interspersed with ultra-modern glass towers in the heart of Halifax, the Victorian gardens offers a green respite, and the Citadel brings the colonial era to life.
On a panoramic drive through bustling downtown Halifax, you'll see Province House, the seat of government and Canada's oldest legislative building, referred to as a gem of Georgian architecture by Charles Dickens, who visited in the 1840s. Also, watch for universities, hospitals, City Hall, St Paul's Church and the residential districts of the South End.
The Halifax Public Gardens is an authentic Victorian oasis nestled in the city's bustling downtown core. Stroll with your guide as they share the history of the lush gardens, established in 1867.
You'll also visit the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site for a firsthand look at this majestic hilltop fort, completed in 1856. Operated by Parks Canada, the Citadel is one of the most visited sites in Canada -- the crown jewel among the most advanced British military fortifications of its day.
A stop at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, where 121 victims of the Titanic disaster were laid to rest, gives you a chance to walk through the grounds with your guide. They will have plenty to offer on the tale of the great ship's ill-fated maiden voyage.
Take in some city highlights on a panoramic drive back to the port in Halifax.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring a warm jacket/sweater.
