Discover St John's, the New World's first city, on a panoramic drive. You'll travel its oldest streets and explore the birthplace of what was later to become the British Empire. You'll drive by historic churches and the colorful Victorian wooden houses that are so typical of St John's.
Visit historic Signal Hill where the Italian inventor, Marconi, received the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal in 1901. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view out over the city and rugged coastline while viewing the continent's easternmost point in the distance. Learn about the area's 18th-century battles and 20th-century aviation wonders.
Immerse yourself in culture at Newfoundland & Labrador's largest public cultural space -- the Rooms -- for a self-guided tour. Here, the Provincial Archives, Art Gallery and Museum are united in one space -- truly a place for people. The Gallery showcases over 7,000 works of art with an emphasis on artists of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Museum focuses on the natural and cultural history of the region including dioramas of the area’s animal and plant life and exhibits illustrating the aboriginal people of the area. Other noteworthy displays include the city's British military history and the contributions of the area's Irish fishermen. With 3 floors of exhibits showcasing all aspects of the province's history, nature and culture, you are sure to enjoy stepping into this portal to the past.
Please note: Your tour is guided until you reach the Rooms; then it becomes a self-guided tour. Do not leave personal effects on the bus. Once the Rooms visit is complete, we will return via coach to the ship.
