Go on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, taking a Segway through scenic Fort James Beach.
When you arrive on the historic beach, you’ll go through an orientation on how to use a zero-emissions Segway – an intuitive scooter that responds to your body language. Even for first-timers, Segways are easy to maneuver and fun to ride. Follow your guide past premium homes and pastoral land onto the half-mile sweep of Runaway Beach, fringed by sea-grapes and palm trees.
Swing back around the large salt pond, full of bird life, onto the track leading to Fort James. You’ll be greeted by the spectacular sight of St. John's port and the Caribbean Sea before disembarking and entering through the large wooden gates of the fort.
Travel back in time to 1706, when the British built one of their most impressive forts to protect against French invasion. Notice the cannons and other interesting features of the fort.
You'll then leave the fort and traverse terrain as your guide shares stories and facts about the area. Enjoy cool refreshments around a picnic table before free time at the beach. You can swim here if you wish.
Please note: Helmets are provided and must be worn on the Segways. Wear closed-toe shoes. Bottled water, soft drinks and fresh fruit are included. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen and a hat. Maximum weight allowed is 260 lbs., minimum weight allowed is 100 lbs. Minimum height is 5 feet. Minimum age is 6 years. Stamina to use ankle and leg movements to control the Segway and ability to stand for the duration of the tour are required. Segway participants must remain alert to their surroundings, the condition of the terrain and possible traffic.
