Begin your scenic journey with a drive along the historic west coast of Barbados Next, you will head inland past sugar cane fields, villages, churches, and plantations before descending onto the east coast of Barbados. Prepare yourself for the amazing views ahead, surrounded by a rugged landscape and the rough Atlantic Ocean. You will stop in Bathsheba for a stroll along the beach and have an opportunity to take a few breathtaking photos. Bathsheba is a photographer’s paradise! Your next stop is St. John's Parish Church, perched on a cliff, 800 feet above sea level, overlooking coastal St. John and the Atlantic Ocean. The present building was constructed in 1836, after the original 1660 construction was destroyed by a hurricane in 1831 . The pulpit is constructed of six different types of wood: Ebony, Locust, Barbados Mahogany, Manchineel, Oak and Pine. The church also contains an interesting sculpture depicting the Madonna and Child with the infant St. John. The graveyard contains the tomb of Ferdinand Paleologus, a descendent of the Byzantine Imperial family, who died in Barbados in 1678 after being a resident for over 20 years. Continue to Sunbury, where you will visit a superb example of a Barbadian Sugar Estate Great House. Sunbury Plantation House, located in the tranquil St. Philip countryside, is a living monument to plantation life of a bygone era, carefully restored and lovingly cherished by its owners for posterity, for the enjoyment of generations to come. Not only will you enjoy exploring this great house, but you will also enjoy a light deli-style lunch. Conclude your excursion with a short drive back to your ship.
