Begin your scenic Bequia tour with a pre-paid taxi drive, taking you through parts of charming Port Elizabeth – the island's only town. This harbor town is comprised or pastel-colored buildings lining the waterfront, historical landmarks and breathtaking views of the water.
First you'll head up Mt. Pleasant, which offers a marvelous view of your ship, the surrounding Grenadine islands and the wider Caribbean Sea. This must-see view is mesmerizing.
Your panoramic drive continues up the Atlantic Coast, with its alternating ocean views and beautiful floral roadside scenery as you make your way to the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary. Orton G. King, owner of this sanctuary, has spent most of his life tending to his precious and endangered Hawksbill turtles. Listen to him spin tales of these ancient inhabitants of the deep. The difference between a tortoise and a turtle? Just ask – along with any other questions you may have. You may even find out how to join the conservation effort.
The quaint town of Port Elizabeth beckons you to explore – don't miss the vegetable market and souvenir stalls where brightly-colored items wave happily in the breeze.
You now have free time to enjoy the town on your own, as your tour ends here within 35 yards of the ship's tender pier.
Please note: Ride will be bumpy in places. Not suitable for guests with neck or back conditions or for pregnant women. Souvenirs can be purchased at the turtle sanctuary. Your driver will do his/her best to speak English, but please keep in mind that the limited tourism infrastructure of Bequia is part of the island's charm, and bear with any language difficulties he/she may encounter.
