On this day trip to Deshaies, you’ll experience all this picturesque coastal town has to offer. Explore its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and lush tropical vegetation through bus and walking tours that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Travel by coach for the approximately 1 hour and 30 minute drive to Deshaies. Pirates and buccaneers put the fishing village of Deshaies on the map, using it as retreat along with the nearby islands of Montserrat and Antigua. Despite its ideal location, on the northwest side of Basse-Terre, Deshaies was once cut off from civilization and accessible only by sea. Eventually, a road was opened connecting it to the neighboring town of Pointe-Noire.
Today you’ll find things are a little busier in Deshaies. Since 2011, the British TV series Death in Paradise has been filmed in Deshaies, which has contributed to its increased population and flourishing economy. Walk along the village streets with your guide, who will introduce you to this picturesque location with its iconic local bars, the charming fishing pier, stunning Catholic church and fascinating Police Station Museum.
Stop at La Perle Beach, a coastal gem known for its gorgeous beaches framed by a tropical atmosphere.
At the start of each Death in Paradise filming season, the Commissioner's House is rebuilt and, after a flurry of grip, prop, stand-ins and make-up activity, it's lights, camera, action.
Finally, you’ll stop at Grande Anse Beach, one of Guadeloupe’s most renowned and picturesque beaches. This stunning stretch of golden sand is set against a backdrop of lush vegetation and rolling hills. It is also a filming location of the TV series, providing a great opportunity for photos. Enjoy approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes of free time at the beach.
Re-board your coach here and head back to the ship in Basse-Terre, where it's a wrap.
Please Note: Minimum age is 10 years. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring your swimwear, towel and sunscreen. Seeing the Commissioner's House is not guaranteed as it is only rebuilt during the filming season. If it is not constructed, you will visit the site where it sits during filming.
