You may never want to leave Caye Caulker after this day trip to this tranquil coral island off the coast of Belize. Explore its vibrant marine life, pristine beaches and embrace the "Go Slow" motto. By the end of the day, you’ll have memories that will last a lifetime.
Depart from the cruise terminal pier in Belize City on a comfortable motor vessel for a scenic 60-minute boat ride to the charming tropical island of Caye Caulker. This little island is located along the edge of Belize's barrier reef – the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. Beautiful coral formations and marine life abound in these pristine tropical waters.
You’ll encounter harmless nurse sharks and rays a short distance from the island, on a shallow sandbar adjacent to the barrier reef. Here the water is calm and crystal clear. You will enter the water in small groups with a knowledgeable local guide who will entice the gentle marine animals to come in close for a personal encounter. While floating or standing on the bottom, let your hands slide along the smooth sides of the sharks and rays, as they swim by in close proximity. Your guide will be close by with little tasty morsels for them to enjoy. This is truly a close-up experience with nature, offering a renewed appreciation for the wonderful creations that live under the sea.
Climb back aboard the boat for the short ride back to the island, where you will dock at the Lazy Lizard Restaurant located at the world famous "Split" in Caye Caulker. Feel free to purchase a local meal or snack (at your own expense), as well as beverages at modest prices. Relax on the water’s edge and savor the exquisite views of the Belize Barrier Reef and the turquoise waters of the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
There will be free time to explore the village, purchase a souvenir or just sit back and relax before leaving this tropical paradise. With a quick stop to feed the tarpon, enjoy the relaxing ride back to the cruise pier with a rum punch in hand (fruit punch for those under 21 years old) and the sound of rhythmic Caribbean music.
Please Note: Bring water shoes, sunglasses, a hat, sunblock and cash or credit cards for meals, shoe rental and souvenir purchases. Maximum weight is 275 lbs. Minimum age is 5 years.
