Go beyond the ordinary when you tour St. Kitts by railway and coach. It will be a captivating journey through the island’s lush landscapes, giving you a unique perspective on the island’s history and natural beauty.
First, take a coach from the pier to the railway station. From here you’ll board the St. Kitts Railway for a memorable journey around this beautiful island. Your journey has just begun as you board the first scenic railway in the Caribbean.
Travel along the northeastern coastline where fields of sugarcane stretch from the shoreline up to the mountains. Roll across high steel bridges and wind through small villages and farms. See the entire island from the comfort of a double-decker railcar. Enjoy the upper level's spacious open-air observation deck with panoramic views. Ride in air-conditioned comfort in the lower level as you gaze through the expansive vaulted windows. Feel the island ambience with comfortable rattan furniture, specialty beverages and a local cookie, as well as island music and a colorful narrative history of the Caribbean.
Switch to a sightseeing coach for a drive along the southwestern coast. Take photos as you drive past Brimstone Hill Fortress – the Gibraltar of the West Indies. Watch for the tombstone in Middle Island marking where Thomas Jefferson's great-grandfather is buried, and for egrets nesting in the trees.
Take in the views of the neighboring island of Nevis – birthplace of American statesman Alexander Hamilton, who was the first Secretary of the U.S. Treasury. Travel through the island's small villages (approximately 40 minutes) en route back to the ship.
