Leave the small, beautiful town of Hillsborough, the vibrant heart of Carriacou. As strange as it may seem, you’ll first drive inland for about a mile for your swimming adventure as you head south toward the town of L'Esterre. This village was once home to the famous artist Canute Calliste, who was also a fisherman and boat-builder.
As you drive along, ruins of the old Lime Factory can be seen in the village of Dumfries. And, Belmont Road offers a splendid view of Saline Island and mainland Grenada to the south of Carriacou.
Continue on to Tyrell Bay, which is located on the southwest coast and one of the centers for boatbuilding in Carriacou. If you stop and ask, a boat builder will usually be happy to explain his craft. Tyrell Bay is a sheltered harbor and also a popular yacht anchorage with a superb white sand beach that will beckon you.
Your guide will point out the mangrove where the oyster beds lie, and in a minute you'll be at the pristine and quiet Paradise Beach. This beach lives up to its name with its long picturesque stretch of sand, swaying coconut trees, and idyllic setting for beachgoers seeking an unspoiled slice of Caribbean paradise.
Here you’ll have the chance to swim in the warm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Explore the vibrant coral reefs, encounter diverse marine life, or simply enjoy the sheer bliss of floating in this tropical paradise. If hanging out shoreside is more your speed, you’re invited to relax on the beach with a good book or admire the azure waters from the comfort of your beach blanket.
On the way back to Hillsborough, drive past the Carriacou mini stadium and revel in the memories you’ve made in this special place along the way.
