At around 2,000 feet asl, the community of Chassin, at the base of La Sorcière mountain, is just a half hour drive from Rodney Bay. This is where you'll find the Aerial Tram -- a gondola that transports you to a world apart.
Flirtatious hummingbirds, impressive buttress root systems, and persistent ficus stranglers reveal themselves as you survey their endemic habitat from the rainforest aerial tram ride, with cool tropical breezes and panoramic vistas included. The Aerial Tram transports you up and away from the heat and bustle of the lowlands to an ecological park located within the heights of St Lucia's forest reserve.
The open-air gondola ascends silently through the rainforest, offering a magical view of nature in all its majesty. Note the towering gommiers, impressive chatanniers, and the remarkable phenomenon of the strangler ficus -- the plaything of brilliant hummingbirds and bananaquit cuties. An experienced naturalist guide points out giant ferns and magnificent heliconia and identifies the calls and the plumage of the birdlife that calls this Caribbean oceanic forest home.
The descent offers a bird's-eye view of the forest and a spectacular panoramic vista of the north of the island. With much to see and hear, the tram ride is a celebration of color and life and a restorative retreat to refresh the senses.
A café and souvenir shop are located at the base station.
Please note: The transfer between the ship and the tram park is a scenic, unnarrated drive. Maximum weight is 350 lbs. The route is winding. Guests who are prone to motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication. The tram park premises are non-smoking. Wear sturdy non-skid, closed-toe (mandatory) walking shoes if you wish to walk the Fern Nature Trail. High heels, sandals and flip-flops are not allowed.
