It’s time to take a panoramic drive to the north side of St Lucia. Along the way you’ll be amazed by the lush tropic landscapes and pristine beaches. Already, you’ll be prepared to stay forever.
Your destination is the Orchestra Pan Yard in the town of Gros Islet. This vibrant cultural hub features the sound of steel pan (or steel drum) music in the air, providing a lively and immersive experience. This is a look into the island’s musical heritage and the rhythmic heartbeat of its people. The steel pan is traced back to enslaved Africans who were brought to the Caribbean in the 1700s.
A whole lot of fun awaits you here, as you channel your inner musician in an interactive steel pan band experience, where you are the pannist.
Learn the history of pan, how the steel pan was introduced to St. Lucia and how it was originally designed and made. Examine the whole range of pans played by the orchestra and learn to play a simple tune, taught by experienced pannists. A total of 3-4 pannists will be on hand, one to teach and the others to assist as you learn to play the steel pan.
The pannists will also entertain you at the end of your session with the sweet sounds of the Caribbean.
Please Note: The route there and back is winding. Guests who are prone to motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication.
