Your journey begins at the pier, where your guide greets you. Leaving the port, you'll travel through the main streets of Santo Tomás de Castilla.
Enjoy a short panoramic drive along the seashore, passing the Naval Base as well as the Belgian Cemetery, where Belgian pioneers from the 19th century are buried.
You're headed to Puerto Barrios, capital of the Izabal County. With a history dating back to the 18th century, Puerto Barrios retains a frontier-town atmosphere. Here, locals and foreigners alike once fought to reap the benefits of the banana, coffee and sugar trades. Even today, Puerto Barrios is one of the most important commercial ports in Guatemala.
During a visit to the Amatique Bay Resort, you will enjoy refreshments before heading off to make the most of a small amount of free time to shop for local handicrafts.
Re-join the coach and return to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable clothing, sunglasses and insect repellent.
