Experience the World of Cesar Manrique -- celebrated artist, landscape conservationist, and one of Lanzarote's best-known citizens. Cross the northeastern part of the island to Jardin del Cactus, an unusual botanic garden where many species of cactus have been carefully arranged in a natural setting by Manrique himself.
Continue to Mirador del Rio to take photos from this fabulous high viewpoint, architecturally designed out of local lava rock and glass. The panorama you will appreciate is one of wild and virtually unspoiled coastline landscape. Magnificent views from the high cliffs of Famara extend to the islands of Alegranza, La Graciosa and Montana Clara.
Re-board the coach and enjoy the scenery as you head for your next destination -- Los Jameos del Agua -- a cave containing an underground lagoon and one of the best examples of Manrique's extraordinary vision.
Finally, return to Arrecife, the principal town on the island, for a visit to the Castle of San José -- home to the Museum of Contemporary Art. The museum occupies what was once the cellar of this castle, built in 1799 during the reign of Charles III of Spain. Its spacious and elegant gallery houses a fine collection of abstract works, including several by Manrique, Picasso and Miró.
