The town of Alghero was founded by the Genoese Doria family in 1102 and soon became one of the more important fortresses in Sardinia. Later, it was conquered by the Catalans, and this is reflected in the characteristic accent of the locals and the style of the urban architecture.
Visit the Red Coral Museum, explaining Alghero's long history of coral harvesting. The elegant rooms of the museum befit its origins as a noble mansion.
Step inside the Church of San Francesco -- a jewel of Gothic and Catalan style dating back to the 14th century.
Your time in the Old Town ends with a stop at Piazza Civica -- the main square.
Reboard your coach and drive to the Sella & Mosca Winery, founded in 1899. Marvel at the Old-World atmosphere and the wonderful estate buildings that have remained unchanged for years. A local expert will accompany you on a tour of the old cellars. To conclude your visit here, you will taste some Sardinian products such as cheese, sausage, a traditional Sardinian flatbread called carta da musica and Sardinian sweets with famous Sella & Mosca red and white wines.
Before returning to the ship, enjoy some free time in Alghero to shop in the many boutiques.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
