In Alicante's historical Old Quarter, follow your guide to the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas. Its sober exterior dominates the network of streets around it. Within, you will find the Chapel of Holy Communion -- a beautiful example of Spanish Baroque architecture.
Enjoy some free time to explore the area with an opportunity to visit the small Alicante Synagogue.
A panoramic drive brings you to Busot and the magnificent Canelobre Caves. Stalactites and stalagmites take on mystical shapes beneath a vaulted ceiling around 210 feet high, lending the cave a cathedral-like feel. The main attraction is the stunning candelabra formation for which the caves are named.
Sample a typical Alicante beverage -- horchata -- served at a local bar. This nut- or grain-based refreshment is served cold and is quite refreshing.
Please note: Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Bring a jacket as it can be cold in the caves. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts and capri-length pants are not allowed. Photography is not allowed inside the caves. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
