A short coach ride from the port brings you to the Castle of Bodrum. To obtain stone to build the castle, the Knight of Rhodes tore down the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus -- a magnificent tomb that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The Sunken Boat Museum features artifacts found underwater, dating from the Bronze Age through the Middle Ages.

Etrim Village, set the mountains and founded in the Ottoman era, offers a rare glimpse of nomadic life. Animal breeding, farming and carpet weaving are the handed down occupations of choice. See the mosque and tea house, visit the homes of the villagers, watch carpet weaving step by step, and taste the traditional offerings of the householder, including a village pancake.

At the market, wander past the fresh fruits of the day and listen to the patois of the local sellers before you head back to Bodrum.

Please note: Wear comfortable non-skid walking shoes. Bodrum Castle has many steps that have been worn smooth over time; these can be slippery. Market wares will vary. Bodrum Castle is closed on Mondays.
