Panoramic views of Cadiz and Jerez city and proceed to visit Vineyard, Virrey Laserna Palace and Fundador sherry cellars.
Discover the origin & secrets of the famous sherry land of the province of Cádiz, which produces the world-renowned Jerez wine. Your tour will start with a private visit to Vineyard in Finca El Majuelo, located in Jerez de la Frontera, a town only 30 miles (50 km) from the sea and the city of Cádiz. The landscape you will see changes from the dry coastal plain to the fertile land near Jerez. The milder climate makes it possible to cultivate the grapes that produce the three main varieties of sherry.
El Majuelo Vineyard is situated in the heart of the Sherry Region.
There are references indicating that Marcharnudo, it is the name of the area where “El Majuelo” is situated, was one of the most famous and celebrated vineyards in the region.
According to historical studies on the area, there was a defensive point during the Middle Ages in Macharnudo, and in 1450 ordinances were issued to build beacons. Watchtowers at the highest points. There is one of those towers at El Majuelo.
During the visit, you will see the beautiful views of Vineyards of “Palomino Grapes”, used to make the famous Harvey’s Sherry Wine and Fundador Brandy de Jerez and we will explain all the characteristics of the Vines.
Jerez de la Frontera dates from Phoenician times but first rose to prominence under the Moors, who called it Xerix or Sherrich "De la Frontera". These names give to Jerez´s position on the frontier of Moorish Spain, and the Alcazar (Fortress) is a reminder of the town´s strategic importance. Enjoy a visit to Virrey Laserna Palace, located in the heart of the historic center of the city, also known as the Palace of the Conde de los Andes, has been passed down through generations since the conquest of Jerez by Alfonso X the sage in 1264. (Conde de Los Andes was a hero of the War Independence and the last Viceroy of Peru and Spain in America). The beautiful architectural design of the Palace has a neoclassical style with reminiscent of an earlier period with a garden and exquisite decoration inside.
You will visit famous local wine cellars where the time-honored blending process that is responsible for the quality sherry wines will be explained during your guided tour. Afterwards, a tasting of different types of sherry will be offered. After your visit you will enjoy a typical and delicious lunch in the cellars.
