A brief motor coach tour will serve as an orientation to the city of Cagliari, then you’ll leave the coach at the viewpoint just outside the walls of the Old Town. Admire the stunning vista of the Roman amphitheatre; then you will begin your walking tour inside the medieval city by passing through the 13th-century Tower of St Pancras and the Piazza Arsenale. From another viewpoint, admire the sights of the Molentargius Pond, Mount Urpino and the Devil’s Saddle. Visit the Archeological Museum to see artifacts from the Nuraghic, Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman civilizations. Continue to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Castello, flanked by the Archbishop’s Palace and the Governor’s Palace. The exterior of the cathedral is a mixture of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architectural details. Inside are two magnificent marble pulpits and a Madonna dating back 700 years. You’ll have a short time to explore on your own; then re-board your coach to drive to the Bonaria Basilica. This important religious site was built in 1325 by order of Don Alfonso of Aragon. After a brief photo stop continue to Mount Urpino for a sweeping view of the entire city from the port of Cagliari to the Molentargius Pond.
