L'Ile Rousse straddles a long sandy curve of land with a backdrop of mountains. The town is named after the off-shore russet-colored rock that is now home to the town's ferry port and lighthouse.
The architecture of Ile Rousse largely dates from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with a collection of attractive buildings that includes the Church of the Immaculate Conception. You will view the church from the outside on a walk through the city center.
No visit to the Old Town would be complete without a visit to the food market that is housed in a building reminiscent of an ancient Greek temple, complete with replica classical columns. Browse among the colorful stalls, brimming with colorful fruits and vegetables, charcuterie, cheeses, and artisan breads.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
