Casablanca and Rabat feature on this full-day sightseeing tour that celebrates these two cities' historic splendor and special landmarks.
In Casablanca, stop at the amazing and beautiful Hassan II Mosque -- the second-largest mosque in the Islamic world -- to take photos outside and admire the immense and ornate architecture of this masterpiece. A nearby viewpoint offers a wider view of the mosque, the city and the coastline. You'll notice that the mosque is built to look as if it is floating on the sea.
A walk through the New Medina (the Habous Quarter) reveals a slice of Moroccan life. The way is lined with souks, shops, and a warren of alleyways.
A photo stop at Mohammed V Square gives shutterbugs a chance to capture many fine examples of Muslim architecture, as well as a monumental fountain, a public garden and a statue of Marshal Lyautey.
Next, transfer to Rabat. Sitting on the Atlantic coastal plain, Rabat is the capital city of Morocco. It is a modern city with wide boulevards, gardens and white buildings -- a far cry from the hectic warrens of the other Imperial cities of Marrakech and Fes, but no less steeped in history with its origins going back to the 7th century. A panoramic drive reveals that this enchanting city is home to many historic monuments and has some superbly preserved relics of its Moorish past.
You will pause for lunch at a local restaurant.
A more modern architectural marvel is the must-see Mausoleum of Mohammed V, completed in 1971. View the outside of the Mausoleum which contains the tombs of the late Moroccan king and his two sons.
Kasbah offers what a traditional medina (Old Town) in Morocco is all about before you return to Casablanca.
Please note: Monuments and shops are closed during religious holidays. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. Bring a bottle of water from the ship. Do not to take photos of military personnel without their consent. Mind your belongings at all times, particularly in crowded places. Alcoholic beverages are not available at the lunch venue. The Mausoleum in Rabat can only be seen from the exterior.
