Alacati is an idyllic village known primarily for its stunning natural-stone villas and small, winding, café-lined streets. It also has a growing reputation for an activity with which Turkey is not typically associated -- windsurfing.
Head to Alacati for a day of windsurfing, starting with a lesson to gain (or perhaps hone) the skills you'll need to take full advantage of this exhilarating experience. The bay is very shallow with a sandy bed and is far more sheltered than the open sea. This is the perfect spot for beginners because you can stand anywhere in the bay, and the consistent, year-round breeze means you'll always have a chance to get moving. Alacati is now renowned as a windsurfers' paradise -- every year, between 8,000 and 10,000 professional and amateur windsurfers from the United States, Australia and Europe flock to the turquoise waters of Alacati Bay simply for recreation and also for internationally-recognized competitions.
Please note: Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Prior experience not required; beginners are welcome.
