A visit to the ancient healing center of Asclepion, built to honor Asclepio -- the Greek God of medicine.
Continue to ancient Pergamum, once ranked among the great cities of Asia and first settled by the Aeolic Greeks in the 8th century. It was also one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor addressed by St John in the Book of Revelation -- he called it the Throne of the Devil.
Leave the motorcoach and board a cable car for the 15-minute journey to the Acropolis, 900 feet above the town. Here, you'll visit the Library of Pergamum, built by Eumenes II to rival the magnificent ancient library in Alexandria.
Continue to the Temple of Trajan (180 BC), built by Hadrian. Its Zeus Altar is perhaps the finest ever built. Today, only ruins remain and its freizes are now housed at the Pergamum Museum in Berlin.
Pergamum's best-known landmark is the Kizil Avlu (Red Basilica), a red-brick temple dedicated to the Gods of Egypt. It is located in what is now the modern town of Bergama.
Return to the ship after your tour.
