Enjoy a scenic 90-minute drive to Carballa, where you will start a three-mile walk on the Finisterre Way section of the Camino de Santiago. This trail winds through forests and mountains, following rivers and streams -- it is one of Santiago's most beautiful walking routes.
During your trek, immerse yourself in the environment and reconnect with the natural world around you and the spirituality of this route for the Christian pilgrims who make this trek. Today, you are worshipping in a temple of nature.
The walk ends in Santiago with a visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, one of the most important Catholic sanctuaries in Europe. It is believed to be the burial place of the Apostle St James, patron saint of Spain and Christian martyr. Admire the incredible architecture of the façade and learn about its construction and history.
Following your time at the Cathedral, enjoy a lovely tapas lunch, at the very famous Hotel of the Catholic Kings. Built in 1486, the hotel is considered not only the oldest continuously operating hotel in the world but, despite its austere exterior, also one of the most beautiful in Europe.
You will have some free time to explore the Old Town independently before returning to Ferrol.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the walk is uphill, over unpaved, rough walking tracks with many steps. Participants must be reasonably fit. Bring rain gear and a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts are not allowed.
