Board a small motorcoach at the pier for this panoramic drive, and follow the route to Winston Churchill Avenue and across the airstrip to the Spanish border. You will pass the city walls, the American War Memorial, and Trafalgar Cemetery en route to the Trinity Lighthouse at Europa Point. Savor the views across the Strait of Gibraltar to the North African mainland, just 14 miles away.
Continue along Queen's Road to the Queen's Balcony, and enjoy views of the town and harbor below. Further on is the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Here, St Michael's Cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites. This spectacular underground cavern serves as a splendid setting for concerts and theatre performances. St Michael's Cave has undergone a transformation with a technology-led installation, creating a new immersive experience inside this natural attraction. Opened to the public in summer 2021, The Awakening highlights the history of the famous cave, explaining how the geological formation came to be through 360° light projection combined with immersive spatial audio.
No visit to the Rock would be complete without a stop at the Apes' Den -- home of the island's famous Barbary apes. Legend has it that Gibraltar will remain British as long as the apes remain here. The apes roam freely. Keep your hands and belongings to yourself -- these charming, light-fingered primates are proficient biters when cornered.
The return drive carries you past the old Moorish Castle en route back to town. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Please note: Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, gravel, and 75 steps at St Michael's Cave. Participants may opt to exit via the entry point to avoid the stairs. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
