Piran is the oldest of Slovenia's cities and is one of only three major towns of Slovenian Istria. It belongs entirely in another era, as it captures the essence of the Adriatic when grand Venetian architecture and rich color palates were the order of the day. Today, this charming and inviting waterfront city resembles a large open-air museum with a rich cultural heritage. Narrow streets and compact houses give Piran its special character.
Upon your arrival, your guide will welcome you for a walking tour through Tartini Square, 1st May Square, the St George Cathedral and Vegetable Square. Each house and street contains an important piece of history. After your guided tour, you will have some free time to explore.
Re-boarding your motor coach, take a panoramic drive into the hills beyond Piran. This is Slovenia's vineyard and olive territory. In the peaceful village of Samarje, near Capodistria in the heart of Slovenian Istria, you will visit the vineyards and olive groves of Ludvik Nazarij Glavina. They produce vintage wines, distinctive Samarje olive oil, and grappa. Step into the wine cellars for a wine tasting and a light snack before returning to the pier.
