An hour's drive to the Dilek Peninsula brings you to Menderes Delta National Park -- one of Turkey's most important natural heritage sites.
The peninsula is home to 804 species of plant, of which six are endemic. Of the 256 species of bird species here, about 70 breed in the delta. This unusual biosphere leads to cohabitation of both Black Sea and Mediterranean fauna.
Visit the small Information Center for a briefing by a naturalist, who will also accompany you into the great outdoors.
Explore the tiny ancient village of Doganbey, occupied by the Greeks until 1924. Many of its careworn stone houses have now been beautifully restored. Your guide points out endemic plant life as you walk through the village.
Mingle with the locals over a glass of Turkish tea.
Returning to Kusadasi, watch a brief carpet presentation before returning to the ship (within walking distance).
Please note: Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as walk is required over more than one mile of uneven and rough surfaces with inclines and many steps. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring insect repellent in July and August. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
