Wine-lovers, come sample the beauty of the Chianti region with this full-day adventure visiting a castle in the Chianti Region and tasting some of the area's spectacular wines.
Departing from Livorno, a 90-minute motorcoach ride brings you to the town of Greve in Chianti. The center is known as the unofficial capital of the Chianti region and dates back to the 11th century. The original Franciscan monastery is still at the heart of the Old Town, as is the triangular main piazza.
A market has been running more-or-less continuously in the piazza for centuries, serving the nearby castle, communities and hamlets. You'll have 45 minutes of free time for shopping.
From there, it's a short coach ride to one of the leading castles in Chianti. The rolling green hills, wide vineyards and olive groves, small stone villages, character-laden parishes and countryside homes made of hewn stone are so beautiful, you'll find pictures of them on postcards and calendars all over the world, as well as on your own camera's memory card. Many of the area's wineries also feature castellos, or castles. At the castle, you will visit the cellar and hear a brief explanation about the wine production process.
Enjoy a delicious Tuscan lunch (including wine, of course) at one of the Chianti region's wineries.
After lunch, ride back to Livorno and the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
