Cyprus' geographical position and turbulent history is reflected in its cuisine. Although predominantly Greek, there are Lebanese, Syrian and Turkish influences through the flavors and styles of food served.
Heading out of Limassol city, climb to 2,250ft in elevation to the charming Cypriot village of Lofou where you will enjoy some free time to explore before walking to a rustic taverna for a delicious meze (tapas-style) lunch. There are cold offerings such as tzatziki and dolmades as well as baked and grilled delicacies such as stifado and haloumi. The meal is accompanied by local wine and traditional live music.
Please note: The walk from the coach to the taverna is approximately 150 yards up a slight incline. There are several steps at the entrance to the taverna. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
