Start your day with a drive through vineyards and up a switchback road to the impressive landscape of the Bandama Crater -- 1,000 yards in diameter and 650 feet deep.
Continue to the northern part of Grand Canary Island, pausing at Teror to enjoy a short visit and restroom stop. High atop Mirador Degollada de Becerra (6,400 feet in elevation; the highest point on the island) you'll feel inspired to take out your camera for some marvelous panoramic shots.
On the way down, you will stop at the Mirador Cruz de Tejada for lunch.
Santa Lucia is your afternoon destination, where you will visit El Hao Museum, also known as the Museo del Castillo de la Fortaleza. On display are archaeological finds from the region, Guanche artifacts, agricultural tools, leather goods and skeletons.
Then see Fortaleza de Ansite, which was built in 1485. This fortification is a steep rock with a cave. Under siege, the islanders were worn down by Pedro de Vera's troops and by hunger, and most of them surrendered, hence the prevalence of Spanish language, architecture, and culture on the island today.
Please note: The route is winding and bumpy; guests who suffer from motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen.
