From the pier in Port Vendres, proceed directly to Perpignan to begin your day with a walk through the Old Town to see the former Town Hall -- a 14th-century stone structure -- and the Cathedral of Saint-Jean, begun in 1324 and completed in 1509. Finally, watch for the symbol of Perpignan -- the 14th-century red-brick town gate known as Le Castillet. Once a prison and now a museum, this gate is the last vestige of the fortifications that surrounded the city until the early 1900s. After the visit, time to have a rest at L’atelier for a Catalan aperitive with cheese and delicatessen. Where you can choose your drink with the "ardoise" and taste the famous wine barrels before driving back to the ship.
