Here's a trek back in time to some of the most significant archaeological sites of the western Peloponnese Peninsula — castles that have extraordinary stories to tell and that have shaped the course of history.
A panoramic drive brings you to the ruins of King Nestor's Palace, built in the 13th century BC. Admire the room where the queen bathed as well as the remains of a magnificent throne room with a huge hearth — an impressive example of ancient Greek antiquity.
The Castle of Methoni was built by the Venetians to secure their trade route to the East. Two bastions protect the main entrance, and the impressive Bourtzi stands tall, defending the sea entrance. Take in the spectacular view over the bay of Methoni.
A snack is served en route.
You will also visit the Castle of Niokastro, situated at the southern end of the port of Pylos. Initially built by the Turks in 1573, the castle is a major landmark. It was captured by the Venetians in 1686 and later recaptured by the Turks. Today, the castle houses the Center for Underwater Archaeological Studies.
