Set out on this excursion that is ideal both for photography enthusiasts and for those who just want to bring home the best possible holiday snaps. A local photographer will mentor you, offering practical hints on framing the best shots of the fascinating architectural features you will see today.
Via the new city, your minibus transportation takes you to Mount Smith. This was the Acropolis of Ancient Rhodes. From the massive (and very photogenic) tumbled pillars of the ruined temple of Athena, you can see the Temple of Apollo, the stadium of Diagoras, and the port area.
Continue to the D'Amboise Gate -- one of the main entrances of the Medieval Town -- and make your way to the imposing Palace of the Grand Masters. For centuries, the Palace was used as a residence for the Knights of St John. Later it became a fortress during the Ottoman occupation, a vacation home for the Italian kingdom, and nowadays operates as a museum.
Take a leisurely stroll along the Knight's Street -- a cobblestone lane lined with inns. These are the 15th- and 16th-century buildings in which the knights lived. Your guide helps you frame some great photos.
Your tour will conclude with a visit to one of the island's best Greek tavernas, where you will enjoy local specialties and a tranquil atmosphere before returning to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring your camera or device; anything from a top-end camera to a cell phone or tablet is perfectly acceptable. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
