The town of Labin, in eastern Istria, is your destination. It perches on a hilltop overlooking the sea.
Pass through the main gate, with its Latin Coat of Arms and Venetian lion, to be embraced by the picturesque Town Square in the heart of the Old Town. Wander through a labyrinth of steep streets and cobblestone alleyways, marveling at the beautiful examples of Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic architecture, the taffy-colored homes, and Venetian-inspired palaces and churches. Before you leave, take in the stunning views of the port town of Rabac from the hilltop vantage point of Labin's Old Town.
You will visit the exquisite Labin National Museum, housed in a Baroque palace and featuring displays highlighting the town's history of mining. Don't miss the replica mineshaft. You'll also learn the meaning of the Labin Republic as depicted in interactive maps and photographs that trace the development of the town through the ages to the present. In the Memorial Collection, admire the fascinating works of Matthias Flacius -- 16th-century philosopher and cohort of Martin Luther.
A short transfer brings you to Raša and the award-winning Merania Art Workshop. Here, you will get acquainted with ceramics manufacturing. Local artists are dedicated to creating functional pottery using traditional manufacturing and decorating techniques. Take part in the production along with the team members. The final ceramic products include tableware, pottery for food preparation and cooking, ceramic ceiling and wall lamps, containers for eco-products, tiles and murals.
