This outing among outstanding lunar-like scenery begins with a drive towards the old colonial capital of La Laguna, situated in the Aguere Valley. The route turns along the base of the mountain range, through the Esperanza pine forest and foothills to UNESCO World Heritage site Cañadas del Teide National Park.
You will pause for refreshments before heading into the heart of the park.
Cañadas del Teide includes an enormous volcanic crater, which has been dormant since 1909 and is more than 29 miles in circumference. Rising 12,270 feet from the crater is Mount Teide -- the tallest mountain in all of Spain's territory. Take in the views of this impressive peak and the surrounding arid landscape in the crater, which is often said to resemble a moonscape.
Enjoy some free time at the Parador Hotel to photograph the scenery.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
