Begin your hike from the pier, passing through the town of Portofino with your guide. Take in the elegant shops and boutiques that surround the charming piazzetta. After you see the church, you'll reach the hiking path.
The guide chooses the route based on the group's ability and weather and path conditions. The first half of the hike may be mostly uphill to Cappelletta, San Sebastiano and Olmi. To reach Molini, you will pass elegant villas nestled among luxuriant vegetation of tropical plants and olive trees.
If you take the alternative route to Paraggi, you will walk along the coastline where the hills and the seaside blend harmoniously; then, you will hike up towards Acquaviva and Molini, where an old olive oil press has been restored. It now houses a little museum in one room and a small café in the other. The path leads through the Mediterranean flora, including vineyards and olive groves. Vegetation hugs the medieval dwellings and the cliffs drop off to the crystal-clear sea, making this one of the most fascinating locations on the Riviera.
Continue towards S Anna and Nozarego.
Finally, you'll descend to the promenade of Santa Margherita Ligure. Note the town's forms, colors, the arrangement of its character-filled houses, its rich villas, and its great hotels, all painted around its bay like a magical reflection.
Pause for a refreshment at a café; then, return to Portofino by minivan.
Guests who wish to stay in Santa Margherita Ligure to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship in Portofino by taxi, public ferry or public bus.
Please note: The hike requires 2½ hours of walking; route will be chosen by the guide based on the composition of the group and the weather. Terrain is uneven and there may be many inclines. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes.
