A full day exploring a famous part of the Italian coast. The Cinque Terre is a rugged collection of villages in the Liguria region of Italy and made up of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.
Board a motorboat and travel from Portofino to Santa Margherita. Cruise along the Tigullio Gulf enjoying views of the coast. Arrive in Santa Margherita and board an air-conditioned motorcoach to Manarola. Travel winding roads running through the Italian coastline and take in dramatic views of the Mediterranean Sea and local architecture. Enjoy a guided tour en route to your destination.
Once you arrive in Manarola you will have some time to explore this tiny, picturesque village before proceeding by motorboat along the Cinque Terre. While on your motorboat cruise, you will see from afar the villages of Corniglia and Vernazza and then debark in Monterosso.
Monterosso al Mare is the most famous village in Cinque Terre. After a guided introduction to the historical village, enjoy a refreshment and taste a bruschetta. Have some free time to explore the tiny shops and experience local hospitality. Known for its’ authentic cuisine, be sure to visit the local cafes and enjoy a traditional Italian lunch on your own.
Gaze out past the sandy beaches filled with colorful umbrellas and take in the tranquil blue Mediterranean Sea. Next part of the journey is by local train, travel to Levanto, then board a bus to Santa Margherita. From Santa Margherita, cruise back to Portofino and return to your ship.
Please note: Bring a credit card and cash, as lunch is on your own. In the event of unfavorable sea conditions, when the ferries/boats do not operate along the Cinque Terre, the tour will operate by bus and train. If you wish to swim at Monterosso, wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen, and a hat. The tour requires a moderate amount of walking with inclines. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Be advised that Cinque Terre can be crowded on National Holidays and, in May, on Sundays. The Cinque Terre is a popular destination; expect crowding in the villages. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. In the Fall, boat services along Cinque Terre stop operating at the beginning of November. Therefore, in November and December, this tour will operate by bus and train, and not by boat.
