Prepare for an unforgettable immersion into the lush greenery of Monte di Portofino in Liguria. This region's unique geography—nestled between sea and mountains—offers breathtaking views, with La Portofinese being one of the best. Start with a 10-15 minute drive through the Portofino reserve's secluded woods, climbing on a private road accessible only by special porters. This serene route passes remote cottages and hidden gardens, leading to a rare destination.
Upon arrival, you'll meet Osteria "I Coppelli," housed in ancient walls once used for drying produce from the Portofino hills. The owners have transformed the place while preserving its charm. The Osteria operates on an eco-friendly system, aiming for energy self-sufficiency and respecting the surrounding environment. It includes an olive oil press mill and a lab for producing local products like honey and beer. Outside, you'll find an olive grove with free-ranging poultry and an aromatic garden for basil used in pesto.
At Osteria "I Coppelli," you'll learn to make fresh "Corzetti" pasta and Pesto sauce, traditional Genoese and Liguria delights since medieval times. Corzetti, or Croxetti, are small circles of pasta stamped with floral designs, a craft preserved by a few artisan woodcarvers today. After making pasta, you'll prepare Pesto with basil, garlic, cheese, olive oil, and pine nuts. Following the class, enjoy a scrumptious lunch featuring Corzetti with Pesto and other farm-fresh products. Your journey ends with a return to the Portofino piazzetta by Porter Van.
