If you want to live like a Dane, you must bike like a Dane. The bicycle is a fully-integrated aspect of Danish life -- even the Crown Princess of Denmark uses a bike for transportation. Beautiful scenery is a bonus here in Aalborg, as you gear up and ride a bike with your guide along Limfjord.
Set out on a bike ride along Aalborg's waterfront to see buildings dating back to the industrial era. Your guide will point out the C.W. Obels Tobacco Factory and the Danish liquor factory -- producer of the world-famous Red Aalborg Aquavit schnapps. This area is now undergoing a significant revitalization as has been dubbed Aalborg's 'Cloud City' after the 100-foot-tall sculpture by Argentine artist Tomás Saracenos.
Fjordbyen, or the Fjord village, started in the late 1930s by fisherman building their own sheds to escape the cold winds blowing off the Fjord. Today, the settlement, located on the banks of the beautiful Limfjord, is inhabited by creative and artistic people, exemplified in the small, unusual, and often very colorful houses. From practicality to expressionism, experience modern urbanism while soaking up the atmosphere at one of the locals favorite places in the city.
Nearby Vestre Fjord Park is an outdoor recreational area where visitors and locals alike can be found relaxing in the sun, kayaking on the fjord or enjoying a snack from the nearby street food market. The park consists of different areas highlighting sustainability, wildlife and nature as well as our emotional and physical wellbeing. Before returning to the pier, enjoy a local treat served by your guide accompanied by tea or coffee to finish out your cycling adventure.
Please note: Bike helmets are provided and must be worn. Minimum age is 12 years. Biking distance is approximately 4.3 miles. Participants must be physically fit. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Tour may be canceled in case of inclement weather. In case of rain, the picnic may be moved to a covered area.
