Drive through the bucolic Dutch countryside in search of the traditions that have become synonymous with the Netherlands.
Arriving at the countryside village of Zaandam, you will see the dignified windmills that were once an important part of Holland’s industry and often the subject of Claude Monet’s best-known masterpieces.
Follow your guide into the past with a visit to the Zaanse Schans. A reconstruction of a village from the 18th century, the museum showcases authentic buildings gathered from around the Netherlands. Marvel at the old windmills and see the typical architecture of the Zaanse houses.
Try some famous Dutch cheese at a local cheese shop. You’re invited to enjoy coffee or tea with a fresh pastry at a local restaurant, followed by some free time in Zaanse Schans before returning to the ship.
