Ghent's city center is straight out of the Middle Ages. It was weavers from Ghent, joined by others from Bruges, who took up arms to defeat the French in 1302.
A one-hour drive takes you along the highway passing the typical Flemish countryside, arriving at the medieval city of Ghent.
Your day starts with a one-hour guided canal boat ride into the city center. From the water, you'll have an impressive view of the historical city center. See the Old Port with gabled guild houses, the age-old Castle of the Counts and the famous row of three towers -- St Nicolas Church,
Belfry Tower and St Bavo's Cathedral.
Entering the city center, enjoy a guided walking tour where your guide tells you all about Ghent. End your walk at a local chocolate shop to taste three Belgian pralines. There will be an opportunity to purchase delicious Belgian chocolates and enjoy some free time for shopping to find the perfect souvenir. Head back to your motorcoach by boat and drive back to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
