On a panoramic drive, admire Belfast's many stately Victorian and Edwardian buildings, featuring elaborate sculptures over doors and windows. Stone-carved heads of gods, poets, scientists, kings and queens peer down from the high ledges of banks and old linen warehouses. You'll pass City Hall, Queens University and Waterfront Hall, stopping for a closer look at some of the city's more intriguing sights, including the political wall murals for which Belfast is famous.
Venturing outside the city to the picturesque village of Hillsborough, you will see why this charming town has won numerous awards in the Ulster in Bloom Competition. At Hillsborough Castle, delight in discovering the local residence of the British Royal Family and visiting dignitaries. President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair met at Hillsborough Castle in 2003. A guided tour of the castle will acquaint you with the family history of the Marquis of Downshire. Hear about the castle's role in more recent Northern Ireland history, and view many interesting pieces of furniture and works of art.
Afterwards, stroll through the gardens or explore the beautiful village of Hillsborough. All too soon, it will be time to depart this lovely corner of Ireland and return to the pier and your ship in Belfast.
