Combine an interesting walking tour with a funicular ride up Mount Fløien for a lovely bird's-eye view over Bergen and the fjord.
Setting out from the pier on foot, you'll head through the gardens of Bergenhus Fortress, whose Haakonshall dates back to the 13th century.
Continue past St Mary's Church -- the oldest building in Bergen still in use and one of Norway's many outstanding Romanesque churches.
The merchants of the all-powerful Hanseatic League once populated the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site Bryggen Quarter. Revel in the atmosphere of the narrow passages between the age-old buildings.
You will pass the colorful fish market en route to the city's Torvalmenningen central square.
At the city park, you will view many of the city's art museums, as well as the Lille Lungegaardsvannet Lake.
Watch for the Town Hall en route to Øvregaten -- Bergen's oldest street.
Board a funicular for a ride to the top of Mount Fløien. This is one of Bergen's most popular recreational areas, with spectacular views at 1,050 feet above sea level.
Return to the base. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Please note: You may encounter long lines at the funicular station. Weather and atmospheric conditions vary; no guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring bottled water. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer. The fish market may be closed on Sundays.
