Norway has a long coastline, and harnessing the sea's resources has been and still is one of the country's most important industries.
Today, you will visit the Norwegian Aquaculture Center, located at Toft on an island outside Brønnøysund -- one of only a few fish farms in the world offering admission to visitors. The panoramic drive to the facility includes a short sightseeing tour through town, crossing the Brønnøysund Bridge and the scenic coastal landscape of the islands.
Learn about fish farming and the technology necessary to raise a fish from an egg to a finished farmed product of the highest quality. Dressed in a safety vest, you will be escorted through the floating facility to see up close the salmon fry in their sea cages. Watch them being fed.
In another building on the float, watch them swim deeper into the sea via a remote-controlled underwater camera.
Enjoy a taste of grilled salmon before you head back to town.
Please note: Life vests are provided and must be worn. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants must be in good physical condition. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on the transportation.
