Depart the pier for a panoramic drive past many of Bordeaux's major highlights. Its beauty, unity of style, and architectural heritage all remain remarkably well preserved.
Pass the Cathedral of Saint André District, where Eleanor of Aquitaine married King Louis the VII, and many other historical sites, including the Palais Rohan (now the City Hall), the Place Gambetta, and the Place Tourny -- home of the Grand Theatre built in 1773.
See the 14th-century Cailhau Gate, the Grosse Cloche from the English period, the former belfry of the Town Hall from the Middle Ages, L'Esplanade des Quinconces, one of Europe's largest squares with its column commemorating the French Revolution, and the Chartrons riverfront where the wine trade began.
Your drive continues to a nearby vineyard located on the outskirts of Bordeaux. Stopping at one of the prestigious estates, you'll visit the cellars and hear about the art of winemaking; then, enjoy a wine tasting .
Please note: Participants must climb stairs at the château. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Minimum age to sample wine is 18 years. You are welcome to bring any on-tour alcohol purchases (beer, wine, spirits) back to the ship with you to enjoy on board; there is no corkage fee.
