Begin your day with the scenic drive to Arromanches, a modest seaside resort that owes its fame to the fantastic Operation Mulberry -- an integral part of the Allied Landing in Europe in June 1944. This artificial port was one of the most extraordinary industrial and maritime achievements of the whole war.
Visit the Landing Museum, which depicts the entire landing operation through various media. You'll then see the remains of this artificial port that enabled Allied forces to land in France.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant with an ocean view.
An afternoon drive brings you to Colleville Saint Laurent with a stop at the American Cemetery here. More than 9,000 marble grave markers stand aligned at this impressive site overlooking Omaha Beach. A memorial, inscribed with a map of the operation, lines the central alley and is surrounded by trees.
At the conclusion of your tour, return to Cherbourg and the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
