Depart from Cherbourg and drive directly to Sainte-Mère-Eglise. Located in the middle of the traditional Normandy livestock breeding area, this town infamously entered news headlines in the early hours of the morning of June 6th, 1944, when the American 82nd Airborne Division troops landed here. Sainte-Mère-Eglise was liberated the very same day.
An informative guided walk through the village will provide further insight into the events that transpired here. At the Town Hall, you will see the O Milestone that symbolizes the start of the Road to Freedom. Inside the local church, a modern stained-glass window depicts the American Airborne parachute drop.
Re-board the coach and head to Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, followed by a scenic drive along Utah Beach. You'll stop for photos en route at the Crisbecq Battery. This site, erected in 1941 by the Todt Organisation, was one of the most powerful batteries in this sector.
Return directly to port at the conclusion of your tour.
Please note: Inside church visit(s) may not be possible if religious services are being held.
