On 6th June 1944, after a year in the planning, Allied forces enacted Operation Neptune, the naval component of Operation Overlord. The operation, which took place along a 50-mile stretch of the Normandy coast, involved more than 5,000 naval ships and landing craft to drop more than 130,000 Allied ground troops from five infantry divisions - two U.S., two British, and one Canadian. The five assault beaches that were chosen were codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword, and the D-Day landings would represent the largest amphibious military invasion ever recorded.
The D-Day landings on Normandy’s beaches, and the ensuing battles of Operation Overlord paved the way for the Allied forces to regain control of northwest Europe, marking the beginning of the end of World War II.
Following a transfer to Cherbourg-Maupertus airport and a briefing, you will transfer to a helicopter for your flight. This tour is your opportunity to gain an unforgettable view of Normandy's D-Day landing beaches from the air. Flying over this historic stretch of coastline, and the adjacent countryside, will provide a perspective that few are able to witness. As well as the landing beaches, your flight will take you over some of the most important sites of the Battle of Normandy, such as the Pointe du Hoc and Sainte-Mere-L’Eglise.
After your flight, you will be transferred back to your ship at Cherbourg.
Please note: For safety reasons, guests must be able to enter and exit the helicopter independently. Flight time is approximately 30 minutes. This flight is not recommended for guests with vertigo or motion sickness. Due to flight weight restrictions, guests must register their body weight beforehand and participants cannot weigh more than 260 pounds.
