Embark on a panoramic drive around Cowes, before arriving at Osborne House.
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert purchased Osborne House with their own money in 1845. The Prince supervised the construction, landscaping and all alterations very closely over the next six years. It was to be a country retreat where the family could be free from state ceremonial obligations. Osborne's location, relatively convenient to London, is also quite secluded. A private beach allowed the Queen to swim and enjoy boating with her family.
Today, the house and its 354-acre estate allow visitors like you a rare glimpse into Queen Victoria's family life. You'll see the important rooms during an inside visit before taking some time to enjoy the rest of the estate. Explore the extensive terraces and sweeping lawns that lead your eye to the beautiful coastal views beyond.
Please note: On Ovation's 8/09/26 call, tour requires walking 15 to 20 minutes (each way) from the ship to the coach parking area. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Your visit to Osbourne House is self-guided; docents are present in each room to answer questions. Tour requires approximately 2½ hours of walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, and staircases between the different floors of the house. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
