Depart Cowes toward Newport and drive through the scenic country landscape to Mottistone Gardens & Estate. Situated in a sheltered valley beneath the Downs on the south side of the island, this austere Elizabethan manor house sits on a property originally mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Since the manor was built, it and its grounds gradually fell into disrepair, but a 20th-century restoration has created lush and extensive country gardens with colorful herbaceous borders, wildflower banks and grassy terraces.
Enjoy the tranquil rose garden, the organic kitchen garden, and some innovative Mediterranean-style plantings. Explore the garden's hidden, quiet spots with restful sea views.
