This is your chance to learn about East Iceland’s contemporary society and culture, as well as its history, geology, glaciology and abundant birdlife.
The drive between Djúpivogur and Höfn is via Þvottá (pronounced Thfot-ta) -- site of the first Christian baptism in Iceland. You’ll also drive past Hvalnes, a former farmstead and the home of the largest swan population in Iceland.
Höfn itself, your destination, is a small but thriving picturesque fishing village surrounded by glaciers, beautiful mountains and the ocean.
Afterward, embark on a guided walking tour of the scenic harbor to learn about the history of the village, the fishing industry and the magnificent natural realm of Vatnajökull -- Europe’s largest glacier.
Upon the return journey to Djúpivogur. Pause for photos at the Hvalnesskriður scree slope.
Please note: Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Views are weather permitting. Parents traveling with children under the age of 3 must rent a child’s car seat from the tour operator; please see the Destinations team on board. You cannot use your child’s car seat from home in Iceland.
